Tim Chang

Tim is a proven venture investor and experienced global executive, known for his thought leadership in Gamification, Quantified Self, and Behavioral/Social Science-led Design. He has been named to the Forbes Midas List of Top 100 Tech Investors, as one of CNET’s 12 Most Influential Tech Investors and as a Power Player West, Digital Media and Mobile Power Player by Always On. Tim invests in the mobile, social, adtech, and health 2.0 themes. Tim’s investments include 3D Robotics, an Open Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Platform, OUYA, a video game console powered by Android, Moat, a brand analytics SaaS platform, HealthTap, an interactive health network that virtualizes the doctor-patient experience, and Fitmob, mobile powered neighborhood fitness communities. He is also involved in Mayfield investments in Lyft, a collaborative ridesharing service, and Tagged, a social discovery network. His notable investments include Basis, a wrist-based health tracker and online personal dashboard. Tim’s prior investments include Badgeville (gamifi­cation as a SaaS platform) and Lumos Labs (brain wellness games). Some of Tim’s notable investments in the U.S. include early leaders in mobile and social gaming ngmoco (acquired by DeNA) and Playdom (acquired by Disney), as well as Iridigm Display Corporation (acquired by Qualcomm). Some of Tim’s notable in­vestments in China include AdChina (leading ad-network) and PCH International (leading supply-chain management company). His other China investments include All Reach Media, Lashou, and Brite Semiconductor. Tim was also involved with investments in Placeware (acquired by Microsoft), NextG Networks (acquired by a private equity syndicate), Borqs, deCarta, and Socialvibe. Prior to joining Mayfield Fund, Tim spent five years as a Partner at Norwest Ven­ture Partners. While at Norwest, he invested in the mobile, gaming and digital media sectors and established their investment practice in China and Asia Pacific. Prior to Norwest, Tim worked for Gabriel Venture Partners where he led their wireless and Asia Pacific practice. Tim began his career in venture capital in 1999 during his time at Stanford Business School as part of the founding team of CTR Ventures, a venture accelerator in Tokyo focused on seed and early-stage mobile consumer applications for the Japanese market. Tim’s operational experience includes working in Japan for five-years as a Product Manager for Gateway Inc., where he launched and held P&L responsibility for enterprise products and as a trilingual Engineer for General Motors, where he led project teams in China, Korea, and Japan. Currently, Tim serves on the advisory boards of the Verizon 4G Venture Forum, Sprint Venture Advisory Board, Gamestop Corporation, and Yoshimoto Kogyo. Tim also serves on the non-profit boards of Little Kids Rock (providing instruments and modern band programs for under-privileged youth) and CAPE (Coalition for Asian Pacifics in Entertainment). In this global role, he leads the widely-acclaimed Mobile Innovation Center, working with SAP customers, partners, and prospects to test and prove out new mobile innovations in the market, and then implement these in standard SAP mobile solutions. Josh and his team work across SAP’s worldwide technology and mobile solution portfolio, helping SAP customers and partners to become better-run mobile enterprises. Josh joined SAP in 2003, as a mobile technology consultant, and has since held key positions with SAP in pre-sales, operations, and mobile EcoSystem and Channels. During his tenure, Josh established SAP’s first three co-innovation partnerships with BlackBerry, Sybase, and Syclo. Prior to joining SAP, Josh worked for several mobile start-ups, where he led an impressive series of successful product launches, acquisitions, and integrations....
