Dana Coester is a Glass Explorer, Creative Director for the WVU School of Journalism Media Innovation Lab and Assistant Professor at the PI Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University. Coester is currently developing applications for Glass and engaged in research about the radical potential for wearables and augmented reality to transform journalism practice. In addition to developing for Glass, Coester’s current experiments are in new economic models for media in white space, and new narrative forms at the intersection of digital storytelling and neuroscience. These experiments span community media, art installation, poetry and experimental film. Coester is a former art director and contributor with Time Inc. and earned her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993. Coester doesn’t believe technology is “just a tool.”
