Obvious Engineering

Obvious Engineering

Obvious Engineering is a Computer Vision IP and product development company working to connect a digital dimension to the physical world, using mainstream mobile devices. We are developing products and technology that make the space and objects around you come alive with digital experiences and interaction, bridging the online offline gap.   We are working to power digital content that is responsive to physical objects and space, adding education and entertainment to products, solving discovery and trial problems within online and offline retail, and powering new types of Digital/Physical products. We see this as a natural evolution of how we live our daily lives.   Our first product is the Obvious Engine, a vision-based augmented reality engine for product makers, retailers, developers, games companies and brands to link digital content and expereinces to their physical products, packaging and media.    http://obviousengine.com/...

Nvidia

Nvidia

NVIDIA awakened the world to computer graphics when it invented the GPU in 1999. From our roots in visual computing, we’ve expanded into super, mobile and cloud computing. NVIDIA’s mobile processors are used in smartphones, tablets and auto infotainment systems. PC gamers rely on GPUs to enjoy spectacularly immersive worlds. Professionals use them to create visual effects in movies and design everything from golf clubs to jumbo jets. And researchers utilize GPUs to advance the frontiers of science with high-performance computers.   http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html...

NASA

NASA

NASA’s vision: To reach for new heights and reveal the unknown so that what we do and learn will benefit all humankind. To do that, thousands of people have been working around the world — and off of it — for 50 years, trying to answer some basic questions. What’s out there in space? How do we get there? What will we find? What can we learn there, or learn just by trying to get there, that will make life better here on Earth? NASA conducts its work in four principal organizations, called mission directorates: Aeronautics: works to solve the challenges that still exist in our nation’s air transportation system: air traffic congestion, safety and environmental impacts.   Human Exploration and Operations: focuses on International Space Station operations, development of commercial spaceflight opportunities and human exploration beyond low Earth orbit.   Science: explores the Earth, solar system and universe beyond; charts the best route of discovery; and reaps the benefits of Earth and space exploration for society.   Space Technology: rapidly develops, demonstrates, and infuses revolutionary, high-payoff technologies, expanding the boundaries of the aerospace enterprise. Two years after the end of the space shuttle program, NASA has a robust program of exploration, technology development and scientific research that will last for years to come. Here is what’s next for NASA: NASA is designing and building the capabilities to send humans to explore beyond Earth orbit, working toward a goal of landing humans on Mars. The International Space Station is fully staffed with a crew of six, and American astronauts will continue to live and work there in space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Part of the U.S. portion of the station has been designated as a national laboratory, and NASA is committed to using this unique resource for scientific research. Commercial companies have begun delivering cargo to the ISS, allowing NASA to focus its attention on the next steps into our solar system. NASA is researching ways to design and build aircraft that are safer, more fuel-efficient, quieter, and environmentally responsible. NASA is also part of the government team that is working to develop the Next Generation Air Transportation System, or NextGen, to be in place by the year 2025. NASA is conducting an unprecedented array of science missions that will seek new knowledge and understanding of Earth, the solar system and the universe. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/...

MIT Media Lab

MIT Media Lab

Actively promoting a unique, antidisciplinary culture, the MIT Media Lab goes beyond known boundaries and disciplines, encouraging the most unconventional mixing and matching of seemingly disparate research areas. It creates disruptive technologies that happen at the edges, pioneering such areas as wearable computing, tangible interfaces, and affective computing. Today, faculty members, research staff, and students at the Lab work in more than 25 research groups on more than 350 projects that range from digital approaches for treating neurological disorders, to a stackable, electric car for sustainable cities, to advanced imaging technologies that can “see around a corner.” The Lab is committed to looking beyond the obvious to ask the questions not yet asked–questions whose answers could radically improve the way people live, learn, express themselves, work, and play. http://www.media.mit.edu/...

Meta

Meta

meta is a Y Combinator startup spun out of Columbia University. The meta interface brings to life the computers seen in Iron Man, Avatar and Minority Report using a sterescopic augmented reality display combined with depth input to track gestures. The interface has been in development for two years but the components have been cost-prohibitive until the last few months. With Chief Scientist Steve Mann who is also keynoting at AWE and Lead Advisor Professor Steven Feiner meta has the scientific muscle to bring about a revolution in computer interaction. meta developers are supported with an app marketplace and a matching service to connect them with professionals wanting custom apps constructed. meta has launched a Kickstarter to deliver the developer kit with $150,000 (150% of goal) in backing only halfway through the campaign. http://www.meta-view.com/...
