Dena Nord

Dena Nord

In my paintings, I work towards combining a variety of textures with a diversity of techniques. I join together organic and structural shapes to create patterns and vivid colors that radiate with rhythm. My goal is to move your eye around the canvas and let you find your own imagery within shapes. Sometimes I start with a sketch, but often I just follow the interesting relationships that happen when impulse painting. I sometimes like to involve first time painters or other artists on my preliminary layers of a work. It allows me to experience painting through new eyes and get unique results. In my gallery shows, I involve the public and incorporate augmented reality. I hope to change the way art can be interactable by creating things like my augmented reality “Dena Nord” App. Currently I am exploring influences from both fine art and design. Being a graphic designer for the Milwaukee Art Museum allows me to be constantly exposed to new art and trends in the design world. Artists that inspire me are Jennifer Scott McLaughlin, Yellena James and Jessica Hische. Other influences include nature, urban life, and pattern....

Embedded Vision Summit to co-locate with AWE 2014

Embedded Vision Summit to co-locate with AWE 2014

AWE attendees who want to learn in depth about vision technology will have the option of attending the Embedded Vision Summit, which is co-located with AWE 2014. The Embedded Vision Summit West is a full day of “how-to” presentations, product and technology demos, and inspiring and insightful talks by industry leaders in one of the hottest areas of innovation today—embedded vision, which enables machines and apps to “see and understand.” Organized by leaders in embedded vision technology, the Summit is a technical educational forum for engineers interested in incorporating visual intelligence into systems and software. This year’s technical program will focus on two themes: Recognition and Autonomy. Recognition encompasses vision technologies that enable machines to detect and understand specific objects in images, such as people, bicycles, or license plates. It includes facial expression, gesture interfaces, as well as contextual understanding. Autonomy addresses technologies that support semi- or fully-autonomous machine behaviors, such as self-driving cars and drones. It includes visual tracking, localization, detection and decision-making about obstacles in the world for safe operation. Highlighting the themes of the 2014 Summit this year are keynotes by Yann LeCun, Director of AI Research at Facebook, and Nathaniel Fairfield, technical lead for Google’s self-driving car team. This year’s Embedded Vision Summit West will: Provide engaging, high-quality technical presentations to inspire you to create products and applications that use embedded vision technology Offer practical know-how to help you incorporate vision capabilities into your designs Give you opportunities to meet and talk with leading embedded vision technology suppliers and technologists, and see exciting demos of the latest vision technology Augmented World Expo 2014 attendees have two options for experiencing the Embedded Vision Summit: Full Embedded Vision Summit (Thursday, May 29, from 8 am to 7:30 pm). Sixteen technical presentations, morning and afternoon keynotes, as well as the Embedded Vision Summit Technology Showcase demos. AWE registrants will receive a discount code for 25% off the $199 registration fee in their AWE registration confirmation email. Embedded Vision Summit Technology Showcase only (Thursday, May 29, from 12:00 to 7:30 pm; includes lunch and evening reception). Demonstrations of embedded vision technology from member companies of the Embedded Vision Alliance. AWE registrants can add the Embedded Vision Summit Technology Showcase for 50% off the $99 registration fee when registering for AWE. Visit the Embedded Vision Summit website for more information....
