CN2 – Merlin

CN2 – Merlin

At Merlin, our cloud-hosted platform Alchemy enables enterprises to easily create and deploy mobile Augmented Reality (AR) content, for Marketing and Instructional applications, and then measure the effectiveness of those applications. Augmented Reality is the same technology that enables the “Yellow First Down Line” in football broadcasts, perhaps the greatest innovation in televised sports to date. Merlin’s innovative, AR Marketing Applications enable life-size, interactive, digital versions of products to be fully explored before making a purchasing decision. Once a product is purchased, Merlin’s AR Instructional Applications help people successfully interact with and repair products up to 56% faster, by presenting information about those products “in situ” or “directly in place” on the physical product. Merlin will present an overview of how a Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) Grant enabled us to partner with Georgia Tech’s Augmented Environments Lab (AEL), one of the premier Augmented Reality facilities in the world. AEL researchers, including Blair McIntyre and Maribeth Gandy, are considered to be some of the foremost AR experts in the world and Maribeth in particular worked closely with Merlin as we explored early concepts for our platform, now known as Alchemy. Merlin’s Chief Scientist, Alex Hill, did his post-doctoral research at AEL, where his primary focus was Argon, the first open source AR Browser in the world, and the majority of Merlin employees to date have come out of the University System of Georgia. Merlin will present a video overview highlighting a variety of our applications with Georgia-based clients such as Coca-Cola, AT&T & Home Depot. http://www.merlinmobility.com Verticals All Verticals Platforms Mobile, Wearables, Location Tech Products Alchemy Studio & Browser...

Hiroshi Ishii, Director of Tangible Media Group at MIT Media Lab to Keynote at AWE 2014

Hiroshi Ishii, Director of Tangible Media Group at MIT Media Lab to Keynote at AWE 2014

Ishii, a Pioneer in Human Computer Interaction, to Reveal the Future of HCI Santa Clara, CA, March 23, 2014 – The organizers of Augmented World Expo 2014 are proud to announce that Hiroshi Ishii, a noted professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab and pioneer in Human Computer Interaction, will kick off the final day with a Keynote address on the future of HCI. AWE 2014 will take place on May 27-29th at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. Well-known tech evangelist Robert Scoble will provide the keynote on May 28th. Augmented World Expo, now in its fifth year, is the world’s largest international event for augmented reality, wearable computing, gesture devices, and the Internet of Things. This year’s show will boast over 200 exhibits from elite brands like Epson, Qualcomm and Intel to pioneering startup such as Daqri, Arqetype, Ngrain, and many more. Attendees will also experience a Wearable Fashion Show produced by Living in Digital Times, the Auggie Awards, a wearable tech Hackathon, the Glass Class: Designing Wearable Interfaces by Mark Billinghurst and 100 additional talks. Hiroshi Ishii is Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab. He joined the MIT Media Lab in October 1995. He founded and directs the Tangible Media research group, and co-directs the Things That Think (TTT) consortium. Professor Ishii’s research focuses upon the design of seamless interfaces between humans, digital information, and the physical environment. His team seeks to change the “painted bits” of GUIs to “tangible bits” by giving physical form to digital information. “Today’s mainstream Human Computer Interaction research addresses functional concerns – the needs of users, practical applications, and usability evaluation,” explains Professor Ishii. “At Augmented World Expo I’ll be revealing our vision for the future, which we call Radical Atoms – in which all digital information has a physical manifestation so that we can interact directly with it. This will actually re-invent the way people interact with computers by taking advantage of the richness of human senses. I will be showing a variety of interaction design projects that utilize this new approach.” “Professor Ishii is a pioneer in Human Computer Interaction and his research and vision have already influenced everything that AWE is all about – augmented reality, wearable technology, and the Internet of Things,” said Ori Inbar, executive director of AWE 2014 and cofounder of Augmentedreality.org. “Truly, it is an honor to have him participate in AWE 2014 and give us a window into the future.” For more information and to register to attend, please visit www.augmentedworldexpo.com. Valerie Cottereau

Valerie Cottereau

With her DPLG National Architect Diploma, Valerie COTTEREAU started her career with French architects. Willing to reach new goals and challenges, she created her own business in 1998, ARTEFACTO. At its start, the company was specialized in the design of the very first virtual images for building constructions and participated to major local projects. Fifteen years later, the company has become the French pioneer of 3D Augmented Reality thanks to technology evolutions and active research led by its R&D department. Its main sectors are architecture, real-estate, urban planning, transports, museums and heritage. As she is a very active woman, Valerie Cottereau has always been committed to imply ARTEFACTO into the French eco-system via poles of competitiveness and actions for the economic development of her region. In 2013, the French jury of the Oscars d’Ille-et-Vilaine rewarded her career path with the Mastering of Sciences and Technologies award. Building from this continuous evolution, Valerie Cottereau designed ARTEFACTO’s new head office building to better reflect the company’s vision, opened an office in New York City, started exporting the company’s expertise and technologies in several countries and became a board member of the French ENS Cachan School for scientific research and training, the same year. 2014 should be as exciting as 2013 was! Valerie Cottereau’s leitmotiv for this new year is to maintain the company’s development progress in a well-controlled framework. Besides, she is participating to the augmented reality plan, one of the 34 French plans for the national industrial recovery. Company: ARTEFACTO http://www.artefacto.fr ...
