The Camera as an Orientation Sensor
Rob Grant, Occipital
By using a smartphone camera as part of an augmented reality system’s orientation sensing, it’s possible to overcome some of the jitter and drift present when only accelerometers and compass are used. This talk will explore some of the benefits of adding this technology into existing AR applications, as well as the practical limitations encountered in trying to take this computer vision-based step forward in mobile augmented reality on iPhone and Android platforms.
