Introducing: City Visions

Introducing: City Visions

Purpose of Challenge City Visions is an open challenge for augmented reality developers to think critically about the future of augmented urban landscapes and, in doing so, design working proof of concept applications. We invite you to work as futurists and use the provided composite mural image as the tracking target, and the canvas upon which you will build your augmented experience. The huge mural will be located in a high traffic and very visible area on the AWE premises. The challenge is particularly focused on augmented visions of the future city in the areas of architecture, transportation, and art. However, this is a crowd-sourced campaign designed to draw from the wisdom, creativity, and insight of the collective, so please feel free to push the envelope in terms of meaningful and interesting ways that the future digital city may emerge. IEEE-SA is sponsoring a guided AR experience at the City Visions Mural,” IEEE Standards and The Future City”, showing firsthand how IEEE 802TM networking standards form the underlying technological framework of the connected city. City Vision applications are eligible to be nominated for the Auggie Awards for Best Software and will be featured onsite and promoted to the 2000 attendees. Location The City Visions Mural image will be projected on a large wall in a high traffic area in the convention center. Download Download the High Definition City Visions Mural image Guidelines Use any Augmented Reality platform that has feature tracking capabilities Experience should work on android and / or ios devices, or digital eyewear Select City Visions applicants will demo their experience during the City Visions session All selected applicants should plan on attending AWE and providing a demo on your own device(s) during the City Visions session Please avoid obscene or objectionable content Criteria Three winners will be selected based on the following criteria: 1. progressive creativity (thinking outside the box) 2. uses AR in a meaningful way (provides information or an experience that augmented reality can uniquely deliver) 3. uses interactivity in a way that relates to the experience’s concept 4. visually interesting (makes use of optimized and well-design digital assets) Judging and Prizes The audience will vote for their preferred augmentations (in the AWE mobile app) and the winners will receive sponsored prizes such as Digital Eyewear.
