Nicolas Henchoz is an art director with a background in engineering, journalism and communication. He is the founder and director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab in Switzerland, a bridge between the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), and the University of Art and Design, Lausanne (ECAL). He has developed new strategies to turn emerging technologies into user experience through design exploration. His new book “Design for Innovative Technology” (Routledge, 2014) unveils his approach for disruptive innovation through several projects and more theoretical aspects, including perception, history and sociology. The EPFL+ECAL Lab research program on augmented reality is presented to the public through a constantly evolving exhibition called Gimme More. Featured at Eyebeam (NYC), The Royal College of Art ( London), Siggraph Asia or the Designer’s Days in Paris, it is the winner of the International Design Festival, Berlin. The research program creates visual, interactive and narrative principles to establish AR as a real media, in collaboration with the Computer Vision Laboratory of EPFL. Nicolas Henchoz has been appointed as Chevalier des arts et des lettres de la république Française, by French Minister of Culture and Communications.
