Włodek Laskowski

Włodek Laskowski

Wlodek is like a Nomad: by day, he is a Partner with VC fund, and by night, he is an active Business Angel and entrepreneur – he is currently leading a great AR start-up called Frozen Chili Studio, whose flagship project creates a Tamagotchi-style AR mobile app, re-defining the famous classic and enabling the launch of an innovative AR platform. Back in 1988 Wlodek never expected to be where he is today, when at 18 years old he escaped from communist Poland to England. Once there, with hard work and strong determination he graduated from the prestigious LSE, upon which he embarked on a successful investment banking career in London. After the City, he joined GE Capital, where as a member of the elite GLDP (Global Leadership Development Program), he worked on top assignments in the US and Europe. Upon leaving the corporate world, Wlodek became an entrepreneur: he co-founded a US-based high-tech start-up Bot Inc. (together with the retired Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet), and led its R&D unit (80+ employees) in Krakow, Poland. After the company was acquired by Ernst & Young Technologies, he established a small investment banking boutique working with both: top-notch European VCs, as well as entrepreneurs seeking exit. Few years ago,  Wlodek co-founded a VC Fund (he called it Nomad of course!), where he is currently a Partner in charge of ICT investments. Although he went to the dark side (VC), he never ceased to be an entrepreneur at heart, and so he gets involved with start-ups as an active Business Angel....

Zalando Fashion Concept Car

Zalando Fashion Concept Car

Nomination for Auggie Award: Best AR Campaign Creator: Wikitude GmbH Organization: Wikitude GmbH =*=*=*= Description: Wikitude partnered with international online fashion retailer Zalando and concept car firm Rinspeed to produce a unique augmented reality component for their “fashion concept car”, unveiled at the 83rd annual Geneva Motor Show. Visitors to Motor Show were treated to the future of mobile shopping through a Wikitude powered augmented reality display mounted inside Rinspeed’s concept car. Using image recognition technology available from the Wikitude SDK, the custom app scanned models that featured clothing available from Zalando and provided attendees with further information and purchasing options. The app then directed them to the nearest pick up location via location based services and geo-data. Through Wikitude’s cooperation with Zalando and Rinspeed, we were able to execute an innovative augmented reality concept for Zalando that they see as the future of mobile shopping. Our unique use of image recognition technologies and location based geo-data allowed Zalando to present a truly forward thinking concept to the viewing public, and they are now building this strategy into their future e-commerce solution. When Zalando first approached Wikitude, they had a rough idea that they wanted to do something with augmented reality, but weren’t quite sure what. We provided our knowledge and expertise in advising them on a number of solutions, with the ultimate decision coming down to a fashion recognition app that would then in turn direct consumers to the nearest location where they could pick up their scanned and purchased fashion, directly from their car. The Zalando fashion car received a number of accolades, both from the press and viewing public. On the opening day of the Geneva Motor Show, the longest wait period to sit in and test the Wikitude powered display was approximately 30 minutes, indicating strong curiosity and interest from the public. Likewise, the concept received strong coverage and praise from the press, with numerous major media outlets and blogs covering the car. The Wikitude powered display was a focus of a Pro7 segment with Johanna Klum, and broadcast to the German speaking audience. “As an innovative e-commerce company, mobile commerce is not just a think of the future for us. With our fashion concept car, we are going one step further, expressing our vision of mobile shopping development over the next 5 years. With Wikitude’s leading augmented reality technology, we are already able to execute and present this vision today.” – Chrisian Meermann, CMO, Zalando. Wikitude SDK

Wikitude SDK

Nomination for Auggie Award: Best AR SDK Creator: Wikitude GmbH Organization: Wikitude GmbH =*=*=*= Description: With the Wikitude SDK, we’ve simplified and streamlined the entire augmented reality creation process. When we set out to build an SDK for developers around the world to use, our key goal was to make it as simple and easy to use as possible. We also wanted to make sure that as many developers as possible would be able to use our technology right out of the box. To achieve this, we stripped the technology down to it’s bare minimum, and set about building an SDK that can be used to build world class augmented reality experience upon standard web technologies – HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. With this approach, developers across multiple programming specialties do not need to learn any new languages, and can simply build upon their existing skillset. This method dramatically reduces development times, allowing products to be launched faster, and ultimately, at a lower cost to the end client.
